Aboriginal Heritage and Botanic Gardens
Date: Thursday 20 May

Experience the world's oldest living culture on a guided walking tour
of the Royal Botanic Gardens where the original inhabitants of Sydney
gathered plants, seeds and roots for food and medicine. Discover how
Aborigines produced a honey drink from the Banksia, roasted seeds from
the Moreton Bay Chestnut and made fishing line from the bark of the
Bolwarra tree. At the nearby Art Gallery of New South Wales enjoy an
Aboriginal performance followed by a guided tour of the Yiribana Aboriginal
Gallery. Learn about the Dreamtime in this excellent permanent collection
celebrating the diversity of indigenous arts in Australia. Return transport
is provided or spend time on your own exploring the Art Gallery.

Introducing Sydney

Explore the vibrancy and style of cosmopolitan Sydney, one of
the world's most beautiful harbour cities. Discover colonial
buildings and cobbled lanes in The Rocks - Australia's oldest
settlement. Visit the Botanic Gardens and enjoy views of the
Harbour Bridge and Opera House from Mrs Macquarie's Chair, a
waterfront seat carved into the rock for the wife of visionary
colonial governor, Lachlan Macquarie. Travel through Sydney's
fashionable eastern suburbs, renowned for their elegant homes
and harbour vistas, on the way to world-famous Bondi Beach -
a haven for surfers and sun lovers alike.

Australian Bush & Beaches

Discover where Sydneysiders go to recharge their batteries. North
of the harbour you will find kilometres of golden beaches, untamed
bushland and spacious wildlife parks. Lunch at a waterfront restaurant
on the majestic Hawkesbury River - home to historic paddle-steamers
and excellent fishing. Travel through
Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park and along the coastal road with
sweeping vistas of Sydney's best surf beaches. Arrive at the
vibrant beach resort of Manly and rugged cliffs of North Head
- where you'll enjoy dramatic views of the harbour entrance and
city skyline.

Blue Mountains
Date: Tuesday 18 May
Time: 0830 - 1700 hours

Tickets: A$182.00 per person
Leave the city and travel west to the mountains. Stop at the
Norman Lindsay Gallery for morning tea and view the controversial
art work of this famous Australian artist. View the spectacular
sandstone cliffs and valleys for which the Blue Mountains are
famous. Learn the legend of the Three Sisters - giant sandstone
formations of Aboriginal significance and descend deep into the
Jamieson Valley via the steepest aerial cable car in Australia.
After a relaxing 15 minute walk through fern-filled forest return
to the top via the Scenic Railway - used by coal miners one hundred
years ago.
Enjoy a delicious 2-course lunch at an award winning restaurant
before returning to Sydney.

Bridgeclimb

Climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge is an exhilarating experience.
Rendezvous at the Bridgeclimb office for a safety briefing and
prepare for your three-hour adventure! Accompanied by an experienced
leader your small team will cross the catwalk to the pylon and
walk up to the summit of the Bridge's upper arch - 130 metres
above sea level. Harnessed to a static line for the duration
of the climb, be treated to spectacular 360-degree views across
one of the greatest harbours in the world. Back on terra firma,
explore the historic Rocks area or make your own way back to
your hotel.

These tours, designed by Tour Hosts Destination Management
(licence No. 2TA001144), are for participating delegates and accompanying
persons of the 7th Biomaterials Congress. Only the best aspects of
Sydney and its environs have been incorporated to provide value for
money for persons whose time is at a premium.
All sightseeing tours include informative English speaking commentary,
all entry fees and meals where specified. Comfortable shoes and clothing
are recommended for every tour. For any outdoor tours we recommend
that participants bring sun protection cream, sunhat and sunglasses.
All tours are based on a minimum number of participants. If minimum
numbers are not reached, alternative arrangements or a complete refund
will be made. Places on all tours are limited and will be allocated
strictly in order of receipt of payment. Where participants cancel
their day tour bookings prior to 5 April 2004, payment will be refunded
in full. Thereafter, no refund will be made.
