Conference goal

The goal of the third biennial NSW Priority Schools Programs Conference 2007 Leading & Achieving is to provide leadership in achieving educational equity for students experiencing intersecting disadvantage in low socio-economic status (SES) school communities.

Factors such as geographic isolation, Aboriginality, gender, disability and cultural and linguistic diversity may intersect with socio-economic status to impact upon student learning outcomes.

Participants will represent 574 Priority School communities across New South Wales and will include students, parents, teachers, executive, regional consultants and state office personnel.

About Priority Schools Programs

NSW Priority Schools Programs Conference 2007From 2006, programs within the NSW Department of Education and Training that support schools serving high concentrations of low socio-economic status (SES) communities were incorporated into Priority Schools Programs (PSP). These programs include the Priority Schools Funding Program (PSFP) and Priority Action Schools (PAS) Program.

The activities of PSP include professional learning for teachers and community members, resource materials development, research and sharing of effective practice in local networks of Priority Schools.

PSP focus on improving literacy, numeracy and participation outcomes for students. These are the most critical requirements for student achievement across the full range of education and training outcomes.

These outcomes are achieved through school-based activities within three inter-related action areas:

  • quality teaching and learning
  • home, school and community partnerships
  • classroom and school organisation and school culture.
