Invitation

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to register for the 12 th Australian Tunnelling Conference, which is being held at the Sofitel Brisbane Hotel from 17 to 20 April 2005. The Conference is being hosted by the Australian Underground Construction and Tunnelling Association (AUCTA), along with the generous support of Engineers Australia and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

The theme of the Conference is "Tunnelling Towards Better Cities". This is appropriate to the city of Brisbane as it commences the implementation of a major tunnelling infrastructure programme, consisting of over 20km of tunnels over the next ten years.

The Conference will attract a large attendance of Engineers, Planners, Lawyers, Contractors and those associated with urban expansion in Australia’s largest growth city. In addition, a pre-Conference workshop has been developed and will attract a number of expert guest speakers from overseas in relation to tunnel grouting and waterproofing.

Speakers include a number of Government representatives, Consultants, Tunnelling contractors and experts who will share their experience, insights and wisdom. The process of community consultation and feedback will be pervasive throughout the Conference and will benefit those who are considering tunnelling as an alternative for the provision of long term infrastructure in major cities and city centres.

Major topics to be addressed at the Conference include: Tunnelling Investigation, Design and Construction, Safety in Underground Construction and Operation, Mining and Tunnelling in the Urban Environment, Tunnelling and the Future as well as Financing and Legal Aspects

I look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane in April 2005.

Yours sincerely,

Alan Robertson
