The goals of the Conference Refocusing Women’s Experiences of Violence are:
- To promote best practice
- Identify gaps
- Be a catalyst for social action in responding to and preventing violence against women
While the conference has a national relevance it will be underpinned by an examination of issues relevant to South West Sydney. This means we will be looking at issues including cultural diversity, immigration, indigenous women, women with complex needs, working class women.
Presentations can include papers, interactive workshops, posters, performances, video, artworks and innovative resources.
All presentations should meet one of the conference aims:
Service Position - To build a dynamic picture of what service provision models work for a range of women drawing from women’s own experiences as well as those for current day and future.
Theoretical Framework - Examine feminist theory and other relevant theoretical approaches to violence against women and critically evaluate their usefulness for current day and future.
Legal and Social Policies - Explore policies and legal initiatives that influence outcomes for women and children affected by violence.
Social Action - Explore and promote effective social action to stop violence against women by providing a forum to discuss where we are at; where social action is best located; showcase effective campaigns and explore future options.
Preventative Strategies - Investigate effective preventative strategies at a local, national and international level.
Presentations should address one of the following themes;
- Indigenous Women’s Issues
- Working in Diverse Communities
- Best Practice Principles in Service Delivery Supporting Women’s and Children’s safety
- Partnerships
- Radical Social Action
- Children and Domestica Violence
- Women with Complex Needs
- Women’s Voices
- Law Reform
Abstract Submission guidelines
- Abstracts should consist of a maximum of 200 words.
- Abstracts must be submitted via the abstract submission form on the Conference website in Microsoft Word format.
- The template is set for Time Roman font, size 12. This must not be adjusted.
- Abstracts are to be text only – do not include any graphs or tables.
- All fields on the online abstract submission form including preferred presentation type should be completed. Please print a copy of the abstract submission form for your records prior to clicking the submit button.
- Authors will be required to provide a short biography at the time of submission.
- Do not resubmit your abstract for any reason other than a notified submission error. If you do not receive a confirmation email with a receipt number that your abstract was successfully uploaded, please contact the Conference Managers via the below email address.
- Abstracts will be published exactly as they are submitted.
- The Conference Managers will not be held responsible for abstract submissions not received via the website or for submission errors caused by Internet service outages, hardware or software delays, power outages or unforeseen events.
- It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that the abstract is submitted correctly. After an author has submitted their abstract, they can check their submission using their personalised access key to re-enter the website.

Failure to Present
Once an abstract is accepted for inclusion in the Conference Program, it is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that the abstract submitted is presented. If for some unforeseen reason the presenting author is unable to present the abstract they must notify the Conference Managers of their situation.
