The Post Graduate Update is an exciting new venture that the AMS Council will be organising at the 13th AMS Congress. The Update is designed to complement the Congress Program and is aimed at all those GPs or specialists who would like a comprehensive update in this ever changing field of menopause medicine. During the morning there will be four presentations by prominent AMS members, with plenty of time for your questions. AMS Information Sheets about each topic will be provided for each presentation. The meeting will be chaired by Canberra GP, Dr Linda Welberry.

  1. Menopause – What Is It?: Professor Rod Baber
    • Definitions – how long does it last?
    • Peri-menopause
    • Variations such as premature menopause
    • Oestrogen deficiency scores
    • Why you shouldn’t do hormone blood tests
    • Effect on different body systems (bones, CVD, mood, skin, urogenital, hair)
    • Well woman checks including smears, mammograms, bone density, lipids/glucose
    • General health advice: exercise, diet including calcium and Vitamin D
    • Is any treatment needed?
    • Contraception/fertility at peri-menopause
       
  2. HRT: Risks & Benefits: Professor Alastair MacLennan
    • Types of HRT
    • How to prescribe HRT

  3. Non Hormonal Treatments for Menopausal Symptoms: Professor Martha Hickey

  4. Low Libido and Testosterone: Professor Susan Davis
    • What do we mean by low libido?
    • Multifactorial nature of low libido in women
