Invitation
It is with great pleasure that I am now able to invite you to
submit an abstract and register for the XVI International Congress
of Eye Research (ICER). The meeting will be held at the Sydney
Convention & Exhibition Centre from 29 August to 3 September
2004.
ICER is a biennial event bringing together leading scientists,
both basic and clinical, from all around the world to share their
latest research. The Congress has a strong international flavour
and by virtue of its different venues has played a major role in
promoting the communication of research between local, national
and international organisations.
Over 90 Symposia covering the areas of Cornea and Ocular Surface,
Glaucoma, Lens, Physiology, Pharmacology, Retina (both cell biology
and visualneurosciences), Immunology & Inflammation and general
eye and vision research, will take place at the Congress. Special
Interest Symposia will also be held every day and will feature
high profile keynote speakers on topics of broad interdisciplinary
interest. In addition, and in accordance with our efforts to encourage
greater participation of Young Investigators at all levels of the
meeting, we will have Young Investigator Symposia on Monday and
Tuesday as well as Quick Fire Poster sessions on Tuesday and Thursday.
Poster sessions will also be organised thematically to provide
a forum for the continued and more expansive coverage of topics
addressed in the Symposia.
Working together with the Local Organising Committee, many of
you will already have been involved in putting together the Symposia
that will play a major role in shaping the scientific content of
the meeting. My thanks to all those local and international members
of the eye and vision research community who played a part in the
process. However, now is the opportunity for everyone to become
part of the Congress. I would encourage you to submit an abstract
and register now to ensure your involvement in what promises to
be an exciting and stimulating meeting.
Like other ICER meetings, the international venue means there
are a whole host of other activities to sample and enjoy. Around
Sydney, and further afield, there are lots of opportunities to
get a flavour of the vibrant and diverse cultural scene in Australia.
Together with our conference organiser, Tour Hosts, we would be
delighted to help you plan your itinerary. Our advice is to start
planning now so that you (and hopefully your family) can make the
most of your trip to Australia.
So start planning now, and we will look forward to seeing you
in what is, in our only slightly biased view, the most beautiful
city in the world.
