Abstract submission for the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia 12th Winter Congress will be held solely through the Congress website’s abstract submission page by way of an electronic form. If you wish to submit a presentation for consideration, you must follow the instructions set out in the following sections. The Organising Committee accepts submissions of abstracts of original contributions on any topic related to the Congress theme.

The 12th Winter Congress theme is “Heart Mind and Voice: A Shared Vision” and prospective presenters are invited to enter submissions relating to this theme in the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia’s area of expertise.
The First Time Presenter Program welcomes delegates new to presenting through an incentive awards program. Some new presenters in the program will receive awards for excelling in this area. Please note that to qualify for entry, each first time presenter must fulfil the below conditions.
Please indicate when submitting your abstract if you wish to be considered for this program.
All abstracts must be presented in English by the primary author. That author will be required to register for the congress no later than 8 May 2009.
Format
Abstracts must be submitted using the Microsoft Word template supplied through the link below. The abstract must be submitted as a word document. The Abstract must not exceed the 250 word limit. Abstracts exceeding the word limit will not be accepted.

The abstract should contain the following:
1. Paper Title
2. Full Author List, Department and Organisation
Title
The abstract title should be in Title Case, Arial, bold, 14pt size and centred.
Authors
Abstract titles should be followed by authors’ first initial and last name (with the presenting author underlined). Superscript numbers must be used to indicate the author’s institution, followed by city and country (in this order). Do not include degrees or professional titles (e.g. Dr, Prof., etc).

Abstract text must be in Arial font, 12pt size, single-spaced and justified. Leave a line between sections but do not indent.
Use standard abbreviations only. Within the body of the abstract, when using abbreviations spell out the name in full at the first mention and follow with the abbreviation in parenthesis. Abbreviations may be used in the title, provided the name in full is outlined in the body of the abstract. Capitalise the first letter of trade names. Compliance to the specifications is imperative - any abstract that does not comply with these specifications will not be accepted for review.
Acceptance of papers for presentation at the Congress will be on the basis of reviewed abstracts.
Abstracts must be received by the Congress Managers no later than 20 March 2009. Please note if your abstract is accepted for presentation it is a condition of acceptance that you register for the Congress no later than the 8 May 2009.

All fields on the online abstract submission form must be completed. Please print a copy of the abstract submission form for your records prior to clicking the submit button.
If you do not receive a confirmation email with a receipt number that your abstract was successfully uploaded, please contact the Congress Managers.
It is the responsibility of the presenting author to ensure that the abstract is submitted correctly. After an author has submitted their abstract, they must check their submission which will be converted to a PDF file to ensure the document has been uploaded correctly. Authors are able to check their submission by clicking on the viewing option in the submission form.
Abstracts will not be accepted via fax, email or on disk/CD.

The choice of abstracts for oral presentation will be made by the Review Panel.
Instructions providing details necessary for oral presenters will be sent to authors upon notification of the abstract’s acceptance.
The choice of abstracts for poster presentation will be made by the Review Panel.
For those selected to present their abstract in a Poster format, it is expected that one of the presenting authors be present at their poster during poster viewing opportunities.
Instructions on the preparation of poster displays will be sent to authors upon notification of the abstract’s acceptance.
