Dear Colleagues,
The Local Organising Committee of the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia invites you to attend the 12th Winter Congress to be held at the Newcastle Civic Precinct on the 18th – 20th June 2009. A selection of Pre-Congress workshops will take place on Thursday 18th June.
The congress theme “Heart Mind and Voice- A Shared Vision” provides an opportunity for cancer nurses to acknowledge the transformations that are changing the face of cancer care in Australia and around the globe. As individual nurses we focus on many different aspects of cancer care however we all use our hearts minds and voices every day to achieve a shared vision for optimal cancer care and control for patients experiencing cancer. It is our hope that delegates attending congress will be inspired and enriched by the program that will explore the exciting transformations and challenges of cancer care today.
Congress will provide an excellent program of clinical, research, education and professional development opportunities to foster your learning, create collaborative relationships and strengthen our partnerships with all providers of cancer care. There will be a range of opportunities for networking with experts from across Australia. Importantly, Winter Congress 2009 celebrates cancer nursing and the vital role we play in the care and management of cancer patients in all settings.
Our international speaker is Prof Sara Faithfull, PhD, MSc BSc (Hons) Onc cert, Professor of Cancer Nursing Practice, from the United Kingdom. Professor Faithfull undertakes clinical and psychosocial research in people with cancer and has worked in many oncology-related fields including neuro-oncology, radiotherapy and urology. We look forward to her contribution to Winter Congress.
There will be a mix of plenary sessions and symposia as well as specific sessions for proffered papers, posters and workshops. We are pleased to be able to confirm pre Congress workshops focusing on Radiotherapy, Central Venous Access Devices and Occupational Stress/ Burnout..
We invite you to consider sharing you knowledge by submitting an abstract for presentation at the congress. Some areas of interest identified by delegates include:
