G'Day Folks,

It's with great pleasure that I'm now able to invite you, after years of planning, to register for the 2004 World Biomaterials Congress. As you can see from the enclosed schedule, our program committee has been working overtime to put together an exciting and stimulating series of sessions. Many of you will have been involved in putting together the Special Symposia which will play a major role in shaping the scientific content of the Congress. My heartfelt thanks go to all those members of the international biomaterials community who participated in this process. And now is the opportunity for everyone, from engineers to clinicians, from regulators to researchers, to become a part of the Congress community. I'd encourage you all to register now to ensure your involvement in what will be much more than a scientifically stimulating meeting. Make the most of this chance to catch up with colleagues from around the world and develop new friendships in Sydney's laid-back and relaxed atmosphere. Take the time to share ideas, give advice, or get together to discuss that wild idea that might just work, away from the pressures of the lab, phone and email. Of course, one of the best ways to get involved is to submit an abstract, since not only do you get the chance to present your work to your peers, you also play a role in the scientific direction of the Congress. The deadline for abstracts is 1 September 2003, and if you're anything like me, you need to be putting your submission together now!

Behind the scenes, a huge amount of work has already been done. Biomaterials societies around the globe have been very generous with their time and resources in keeping their members informed of progress and enlisting their support. The congress venue is looking fantastic, and 60% of the exhibition space has been booked out. We're well on the way to reaching our sponsorship target, thanks to the generosity of our corporate members. I'm convinced that between us we have built solid foundations for a really successful congress. But the keystone is, of course, you. This is your meeting, and registering is your chance to make it happen: make the most of it! Register now, start putting your abstract together, and plan your trip. There are a whole host of activities to enjoy around Sydney and further afield, and we'd be delighted to help you put together your itinerary. And if I can offer a final word of advice: start now! You (and hopefully your family) can have a lot of fun planning your trip if you take time to put it together carefully. Book early - not only will you save money, you'll also be able to relax knowing you're well prepared.
So start planning now, and we'll look forward to seeing you in what is, in our unbiased view, the most beautiful city in the world.
